About Me

Strength Coach, Powerlifting Coach, Exercise Referral Specialist

I'm Steve, the coach behind Southlondon-Strength (S C Coaching)

I help everyday adults get stronger, move better, and rebuild confidence-no matter their starting point, health background, or training history.

My coaching combines strength training, powerlifting techniques and clinically-informed exercise referral knowledge, shaped not just by qualifications but by decades under the bar and my own experience developing a heart condition and lung disease in my 50s.

Why i Coach the Way i Do

I've been lifting for most of my life. Strength training has been a constant for decades, long before i became a coach but when i was struck down with health issues, my life took an unexpected turn. That experience changed how i saw training-not as something extreme, but as something thats needs to support your life, your health, and your long-term wellbeing.

It also gave me a deep understanding of what many people feel.

  • Feeling unsure after a health setback.
  • Worrying about symptoms.
  • Wondering if training is still safe.
  • Feeling "to old" or "to unfit" to start again.
  • Needing someone who actually understands.

I've lived that and thats why i coach the way i do-practical, reassuring, and always with your health in mind.

My Coaching Background

To support others properly, i built a coaching approach that brings  together.

  • Strength & Powerlifting coaching.
  • Exercise Referral (understanding chronic conditions & safe progression).
  • Years of real coaching experience with adults of all ages and abilities.
  • Decades of personal lifting experience.

This mix means you get both technical expertise, and a coach who truly gets what it's like to train with challenges.

My Coaching Style

  • I keep things simple, supportive and realistic.
  • Clear coaching cues and proper technique work.
  • Technique is priority, especially if your managing pain and mobility issues.
  • You learn the safest ways to squat, press, and hinge thats optimal to you.
  • Patient progression with sessions designed around your abilities.
  • Safety first.
  • A personalised programme.
  • Training that supports your health, not fights it.
  • Helping you feel capable, not overwhelmed.

My goal is that you walk away from every session feeling better, stronger, more confident and have a sense of achievement.

Who i Work With

Adults who want a safe way back into exercise.

  • Support while managing conditions like Arthitis, Osteoporosis, Simple back pain, Joint replacement, hypertension, High Cholesterol, Obesity, Diabetes, Asthma, Copd Hypermobility and Mental health.
  • Functional strength that carries over into everyday life.
  • To learn lifting movements with confidence.
  • A coach that understands what training with health issues feels like.

Whether you're  a seasoned lifter, someone  returning after years away or stepping in for the first time, i'm here to help.

Why Exercise Referral Matters to Me

I didn't take the exercise referral qualification to just tick a box, i took it because i wanted to understand more about the conditions, symptoms, and medications people are dealing with-including my own.

It allows me to create strength programmes that are.

  • Safe.
  • Evidence-based.
  • Adapted to your needs.
  • Still  effective and challenging in the right way.

It bridges the gap between healthcare advice and real-world strength training.

My Philosophy

Strength is for everyone-especially those who think its "to late" for them.

  • Your starting point doesn't matter.
  • Your age doesn't matter.
  • Your health doesn't disqualify you.

If you want to get stronger and feel more capable, you deserve a coach who understands both the training and the challenges.

Let's work together

If your ready to build strength, improve your health, feel better in your day-to-day life or simply improve your lifting technique, im here to help.

You don't need to start strong

You just need the willingness to begin.
