About me
I'm Stephen Cole, the coach behind SouthLondon Strength (S C coaching).
I help everyday adults get stronger, move better, and rebuild confidence-no matter their starting point, health background, or training history.
My coaching combines strength training, powerlifting technique, and clinically-informed Exercise Referral Knowledge, shaped not just by qualifications but by decades under the bar and my own experience developing a heart condition and lung disease in my 50's.
Why i Coach the Way i Do
I've been lifting for most of my life. Strength training has been a constant for decades, long before i ever became a coach. But when i turned 50, after years under the bar, my life too an anexpected turn. I developed a heart condition and lung disease. That experience changed how i saw training-not as something extreme, but as something that needs to support your life, your health, and your long term wellbeing.
It also gave me a deep understanding of what many people feel.
Feeling unsure after a health setback
Worrying about symptons
Wondering if training is still safe
Feeling "to old" or "to unfit" to start again
Needing someone who actually understands
I've lived that.
That's why i coach the way i do-practical, reassuring and always with your health in mind.
My Coaching Background
To support others properly, i built a coaching approach thast bringstogether.
Strength & Powerlifting coaching
L3 Exercise Referral (understanding long term chronic conditions & safe progressions)
Decades of personal lifting experience.
This mix means you get both technical expertise and a coach who truly gets what it's like to train with challenges.
My Coaching Style
I keep things simple, supportive, and realistic.
No pressure
No pushing through pain or symptoms
Safety first
Training that supports your health, not fights it
Helping you feel capable, not overwhelmed
My goal is that you walk away from every session feeling better, more confident and proud of what you have done.
Who i work with
I work best with adults who want.
A safe way back into exercise
Support while managing conditions like hypertension, diabetes, asthma/copd arthritis, or chronic pain
Strength that carries over into everyday life
To learn lifting movements with confidence
A coasch who understands what training with health issues feels like
Whether you're returning after years away or stepping into this for the first time, I'll meet you where you are.
Why Exercise Referral Matters to Me
I didn't take the Exercise Referral qualification just to tick. a box.
I took it because i wanted to understand to understand more about the conditions, symptoms, and medications people are dealing with-including my own.
It allows me to create strength programmes that are.
Safe
Evidence-based
Adapted to your needs
Still effective and challenging in the right way
It bridges the gap between healthcare advice and real-world strength training
My Philosophy
Strength is for everyone-especially those who think it's "too late" for them
Your starting point doesn't matter.
Your health history doesn't disqualify you.
\If you want to get stronger and feel more capable, you deserve a coach who understands both the training and the challenges.
Let's Work Together
If your ready to build strength, improve your health, or simply feel better in your day-to-day life, i'm here to help
